I built this server in late 2006 to learn about linux and how to run a server. At first it ran Kubuntu linux with VNC but that died almost weekly. I then ran Debain via command line for about a year and not it runs a home-brew Linux distro called Blue Square Linux.
The server is built out of a HP computer from 2000, some spare parts with new hard drives, NICs and SATA controller. I use SATA as they can be reused in a new server or computer where as PATA costs more for less. The server is left on for long periods of time and it only turned off for hardware upgrades or if the UPS runs out in a power cut.
